'The Morning Coffee'

This painting is an ode to the morning cup of coffee. Our daily rituals are so important and really, over time, they form us - so I thought I’d immortalise this one in paint. The soft, almost dreamlike colour palette is reminiscent of that ‘new morning’ feeling, when everything is a little hazy and the promises of the day have yet to be brought into view (before coffee, of course!). My aim was to capture a familiar scene and imbue it with a sense of calm and relaxation. This is probably a weekend scene as there is evidence of time taken here - the elements are arranged nicely, beans have been decanted, a book lies nearby to be enjoyed, the coffee has been stirred with a spoon and not slammed down in a hurry. There is much of that weekend feeling here, and I hope this piece conveys the quiet, simple delight and comfort of a ritual that most of us regularly enjoy.
The painted frame has soft tones of lilac and tan, which add a fun visual element but still sit nicely with the similar tones within the painting.
