This painting is a celebration of what being an optimist is - it’s a choice you make as an act of resilience. Far from being a denial of reality or pain, this gal has seen some of it and yet her gaze is fixed forwards. Onwards. Upwards. Outwards. Kindness is not weakness and believing in a world of possibilities is not foolishness. Disappointment and suffering do not get the final word. Long Live Optimism.
(I really really enjoy the palette on this one - I’ve been having a lot of fun with pinks and oranges together. The combination is energizing and playful but also bold. Kinda like the themes of this painting).
